Hi fiidel_castro. I wasn’t able to send this to you on babble, but wanted you to receive this message from me.
…..
A belated welcome to babble, fiidel_castro.
I’m not sure what to do with that thread, which has now become an attack on you.
But it’s certainly not a coincidence that the whitest babblers who are the least knowledgeable about anti-racism are now attacking you.
I apologize on their behalf.
The issue of diversity is a *very sensitive topic on babble for white folks, and while I think NorthReport was sincere in his trying to start a discussion on it, I could have predicted that it wasn’t going to go anywhere productive. I was not hugely surprised that remind opened with criticizing you in her snarky way. She is good on (white women’s) feminism but is no ally, obviously.
On babble, few are good on talking about race/culture/Aboriginal issues/diversity without making it all about them (white folks). I’ve come to accept that, but it’s not for the faint hearted.
I don’t know you at all, but I know your voice is valuable to babble. I also know that the majority may make it difficult or impossible for you to stay around.
For more about me, by the way, on my profile page there’s a link to my blog where I rant and rave about many things, often using problematic threads on babble as a starting point.
I look forward to reading more from you. Please message me anytime.
And I plan to check out your blog, which looks fab.

“I’m not sure what to do with that thread, which has now become an attack on you.” (Maysie)
What thread?
It was on a independent political web site. The situation was over some trifling comments that made no difference about anything. It was a waste of my time to be honest. Maysie is a moderator and was a general voice of reason in the matter. I was answering to a post about “diversity” at the web site and I made some clear and present generalizations about the site that in the end caused a stir. Nothing too scandalous.
